Personal Statement
Ever since I was little I have always had the mindset that I would play college sports. I have never imagined college without sports because it has always been my dream and an important part of my family's history. My dad, two uncles, and both grandfathers all played sports (mainly football) at Duke University, Notre Dame, Auburn and even two of them played professionally. I have two brothers, both younger, and was born in Charleston, SC, then moved to Chicago, IL, and finally moved to Raleigh, NC. My parents both went to Duke University and received their Bachelors degrees there then completed their Masters at the Citadel.
I have played soccer since I was three and started volleyball and basketball in sixth grade. I have had the privilege of being on a State Championship Volleyball team freshman year and almost a State Championship Soccer team until I hurt my foot two days before the tournament. Also, I have had the honor of being my schools only Varsity Soccer Goalie since seventh grade and it has helped me tremendously. This has taught me to become a better player and leader through experiencing harder game situations and playing talented players with committed Division I scholarships. Last fall I joined a U18 club soccer team and was also their only goalie. In eighth grade, I was awarded Most Athletic Middle School Girl and was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.
Education has been a critical part of my focus and my GPA stands at a 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. I take Honors and AP classes such as Honors Chemistry and AP World. Recently, I have been inducted into the National Honor Society, which I am really excited about and am committed to maintain my status as a Student-Athlete. Also, I work at the front desk of my family's five star pet resort and spa called Suite Paws here in Raleigh. I have been told that I am very coachable and I focus myself on dedicating each game to someone important in my life and playing my heart out for them. My strengths include communication, aggression to the ball, punting and being mindful of angles in goal. I continue to work hard on improving my footwork, like passing, which took a backseat due to my main focus on strengthening my hand-eye coordination. I practice with William Hesmer, a former Major League Soccer goalie. My dream, since I can remember, has always been playing my favorite sport on a college field and I hope that someday I can share my talents with others outside of High School.
I aim to be either a Business major, Veterinary studies major, or History major in college.
