Personal Statement

Hello coaches, my name is Rachel Gervais, I play right winger for Archbishop Carroll High School, and it would be a dream to play at the intercollegiate level. I am currently a junior in high school, earning a starting position on the varsity team since my freshman year. Last season, I was the lead scorer for my high school. In addition, I was selected for first team All-Conference and 2nd team Miami Valley South.  It has also been a great experience to compete and travel with my club team, the Ohio Galaxies.

I thoroughly enjoy team sports, but since I am a versatile athlete, I also thrive on individual competition, participating on Carroll’s Women’s Track and Field team since I entered high school. Last year, I competed in the 4x400 relay, 4x200 relay, 200-meter dash,100-meter dash, 60-meter dash, 300-meter hurdles, 100-meter hurdles and triple jump, earning the Carroll Women's Track "Most Valuable Athlete" award. My performance qualified me to compete at the state level, where I podiumed in several events at the Ohio State Indoor Track Meet.

Although I enjoy competing in sports, I also understand the importance of academics. Day in and day out, I believe I demonstrate a strong work ethic, as I work diligently to maintain my grades, currently accumulating a weighted GPA of 4.38. I am also a member of the National Honor Society, and with academics in mind, I hope to attend a college that offers a strong academic foundation.

Finally, on a personal note, I am a triplet, and my other two siblings are boys, which has likely contributed to a few intangibles, like toughness and grit. But if you ask my teammates and coaches, which I hope you do, I think they will tell you the greatest asset I provide the team is positive energy and strong relationships, which I think helps build team chemistry. For relaxation, I enjoy music, as I took piano lessons for over ten years, I played the clarinet in the concert band, and I am currently learning the electric guitar. I have also been playing in a co-ed recreation softball league for over five years now.  In my extracurricular school activities, I participate in the Spanish Honors Club and the Military Kids Club.

In summary, I understand the importance of being not only a team leader, but also a team player and an exemplary student-athlete. With a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a touch of natural athleticism, I am confident that I can be an asset on any soccer team.

  • 12/10/23 to 12/10/23
  • Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 92 / 100 Dribbling - Quality with ball at both feet. Good in tight spaces, and makes good use of moves to beat defenders. Ball Control - Quality first touch in space, and controls the ball under pressure. Tactical Abilities - 92 / 100 Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. Speed Of Thought - Has good ideas and tries to play fast. This will only help future growth. Physical Abilities - 95 / 100 Speed - Great speed overall, in particular when running into space. Will be an important asset going forward. Explosiveness - Great quickness and explosiveness, especially in the first step or two. Mental Abilities - 95 / 100 Confidence - Great confidence, didn’t shy away when challenged at camp and played with a sense of urgency. Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Coach's Comments Rachel grew into the camp once she calmed down and began to play. She was one of the most dangerous players off the dribble. She has excellent pace and close dribbling ability at pace. As a 2025 grad, she has time to continue to develop confidence in taking defenders off the dribble and developing a killer instinct to get dangerous spaces to shoot. Look to take defender off the dribble to goal - You have a tremendous ability to get up to speed and cover ground very fast with close ball control. Vary your attacking by passing sometimes but be more willing to take the last defender going to goal. When you get up to top speed it only takes a slight movement to misdirect the defender Continue to run forward to get behind defense. - From tip #1, continue your runs higher up the field when you do pass going off of the dribble Dribble to attack goal off dribble - Dribble to attack goal off dribble instead of just up the flank. This will allow a secondary space for you to dribble or pass into if the defender prevents you from continuing to go to goal. Coach Walker left you a voice message:
