Personal Statement
My name is Jordan August and I am starting my Junior year at Morgantown High School in Morgantown, WV. I am interested in pursuing a degree in Exercise Science and attending Physical Therapy school so that I can help other athletes prevent or recover from injury and play the game/sport they love. I earned the starting goalkeeper spot on my high school team as a freshman/sophomore and currently play for Beadling Soccer Club in Pittsburgh, PA on the 2001 Girls Elite team. I have played club soccer since I was 10 years old and constantly strive to improve my skill and understanding of the game. I currently do individual goalkeeping sessions on a weekly basis with Hunter Gilstrap, and Cristian Materazzi, a former professional player and Head Coach of the Women's soccer team at Alderson Broaddus University. I work hard to perform at my best both in the classroom and on the field and strive to be a role model for other players and have trained younger goalkeepers in hopes of passing on my love of the position and game of soccer.
I believe that soccer has taught me to persevere and constantly push myself to my personal limits to be the best player and person I can be. I have a true love of the game and constantly study the game by watching Premier League Soccer, in addition to improving my skills through individual goalkeeping and team training sessions. I also train at Viking Performance Training to improve my strength and agility multiple times a week. I think that soccer has pushed me to become a leader and stronger person and has taught me many life lessons and I think my approach to life and soccer is best explained by the quote below:
"All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you're not good enough or strong enough or talented enough, they'll say you're the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. They will tell you no, a thousand times until all the no(s) become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly. They will tell you no and you will tell them YES."
