Personal Statement
I am currently a 16 year old junior at Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware. I started swimming competitively at age 7 for Delaware Swim Team and have competed in high school swimming since 8th grade. I have enjoyed many successes and worked through many setbacks in the pool. I believe that my continued hard work and drive will pay off in the long run and such lessons in the pool will continue to help me in the classroom as well. Over the last few years, my drive to succeed in school has increased and I believe this is directly related to my efforts in the pool. Recently I have had to overcome some physical setbacks from swimming which have lead me to adjust and accept different goals. The battle to overcome these setbacks has made me more determined to succeed in the future. I am looking forward to my next few years in high school and making the transition into college. So far, in my high school years I have had success in middle and long distance freestyle events. I have also had prior success in breastroke and IM events and hope to make those races a priority over the next few years. One of my goals is to become a more versatile swimmer and be able to contribute to a team in a variety of ways. I have always been motivated and driven to be a great swimmer and teammate. One of my favorite aspects of swimming is being around my teammates and forming long lasting friendships outside of swimming. I have been fortunate enough in the past two years to be connected with inspirational female Olympic swimmers who have motivated me even more to better myself and work towards being a team leader. On the academic side of things, my desire to succeed has lead me to pursue advanced courses of study at one of the top college preparatory schools in the country. I strongly believe that this is going to help me succeed academically at any college that I will attend. At school, I have also taken on leadership roles within the student body and as an ambassador for the school internationally through exchange programs. The sport of swimming and all that goes with it has been so important in my academic success so far and I believe that each will continue to help the other as I move forward.
