Personal Statement
I am a hard-working swimmer and student who enjoys swimming competitively. I hope to attend a college or university that will challenge me both academically and athletically. I started swimming competitively at age 13 and have improved rapidly and consistently. My strongest events are sprint freestyle (SCY50=23.81 & SCY100=51.60) and breaststroke (SCY 50 ~30.50; SCY 100 1:08.54). I have also steadily improved my time in the 200 free and the 200 individual medley over the past three years. After progressing through various training programs, I started training with Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club's National Training Group in Spring 2009. In college I would like to be an integral part of a team that swims fast and has fun. I'm undecided about a major although I'm interested in architecture or perhaps sports medicine. I would like to find a school that provides lots of opportunities while emphasizing good teaching, and which attracts students who are interested in learning. My GPA as of June 2011 is 3.87, or 4.57 on a weighted basis taking account for honors and AP courses. I've taken a challenging course load including 4 AP courses so far (AP Scholar with honor as of August 2011). I also like foreign languages and I'm studying Spanish, after having scored a 5 on the AP Japanese exam. Due to my father's work, I lived overseas in Japan, China, and Korea until age 12. The following lists some swimming awards and honors: 2010-2011 NISCA All American 400 and 200 free relay teams. 2009-2010 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team. 2009-2010 NISCA All American 400 freestyle & 200 medley relay teams. 2008-2009 Potomac Valley Swimming Scholar Athlete. NISCA All-American 200 medley relay team.
