I am a sprinter!--Fly, Free, Back

          Hi, my name is Allison Vela from Newburgh, New York. I am entering my senior year at Newburgh Free Academy, a school with approximately 3,000 students. I have played several sports in my life, and presently am 100% focused on swimming. Swimming challenges me both physically and mentally, and has helped to shape my character. My sophomore year, my goal was to qualify for the State Championship meet in the 100 fly. I missed, by .8 and was devastated. I have been raised to accept, evaluate, and work to win so, after missing my goal, I worked even harder! When I qualified as a junior in the 100 fly I was ecstatic to share the moment with my friends/teammates and family. The lesson I learned was simple. Winning, requires sacrifice, commitment, and hard work, there are no short cuts. That endeavor is something I will always remember and draw upon in the pool and life.

        I am extremely coachable. I am a leader who cares more for others than myself. I am the first in the pool, the last out, and never take a set off.  I am intensley competitive and no workload is too much. In selecting the right college experience, I am looking at academics first. I plan to study Biomedical Engineering and will enter college with nearly 30 credits. I am expecting to swim full time as well because I can not imagine my life without the pool. I have never touched a weight and am looking forward to getting stronger and faster.
