Personal Statement
As you already know, my name is Taylor Bean, and I am a competitive swimmer.
My love for this sport is never-ending. I would go to each corner of the universe multiple times if it meant I could continue my swimming career into college. I constantly strive to break past my boundaries and reach goals that once seemed impossible to me. Once I have accomplished that, I set ones even higher than before, I won't stop until I get there. Not only does this apply in swimming, but also in school as well. Whether it is athletic or academic, I love a challenge.
As Terry Bradshaw once said, "When you've got something to prove, there's nothing greater than a challenge."
I've made honor roll every quarter of my schooling, and plan on continuing to do so. I am a strong believer in being balanced as well as being well rounded. As a student, I've taken a variety of different courses ranging from politics, sciences, and physical education electives. As an athlete, I participate in three varsity sports in which I have lettered in all of them. As a teenager, I make sure to leave time for social activities and things normal teenagers do. I enjoy volunteering, to see the impact such small actions can have on some people. Finally, as a mentor, I love helping younger athletes who want to achieve more within their sport. In swimming, I have coached many kids at our summer swim club. If someone asks for extra help, I do not hesitate and will give up my free time to work with them. An older swimmer did this for me, when I first started swimming, and I will never forget it. What she did for me, I decided to carry on, in hopes that it will continue keeping young athletes inspired to do well.
One of my favorite quotes is one of Mia Hamm's. She said that, "Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you, is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back... Play for her." This is a quote that has pushed me every single time I've wanted to give up and quit trying out of frustration. I always look back to that 10 year old girl that swore one day she'd be up on that medal stand representing Team USA. I will always swim for her.
