Personal Statement
I am someone who will not stand to do anything half way. I love and hate my need to get every last detail right. I’m looking forward to college swimming to learn and to continue working on these details to reach my goals. This perfectionism is not only visible in the pool, I also strive for academic excellence. I always try to do everything to the best of my ability.
In my younger years, it was all fun and games, but as I began to commit to swimming, I started really putting in the work and getting competitive. I was at first frustrated by teammates that were going so much faster than me when I was putting in such hard work. My improvements always seemed to be overshadowed by the shining accomplishments of the young super swimmer at the time. But I kept working, I loved feeling that burn of pushing past my imagined limits. Finally, I started to really improve, and I could compete with the people who had always seemed so out of reach. Experiencing this has helped me keep perspective as I continue taking on more challenging levels of swimming and academics.
I hope to find a school that has an outstanding team spirit, where the swimmers support each other. My teammates and I always try to have fun at practice to remember why we love the sport. At the same time though, we push each other to keep on going and keep on giving it our all. I’m always there to cheer on my teammates and get them pumped. I also am looking for a strong coach to help take me to the next level while supporting me, pushing me, but also allowing me to figure it out. I dream of competing on a high-level team, so I have endless room for growth. I am okay being a little fish in a big pond as long as I can continue to improve to be the best I can be.
