My name Elizabeth Weil, but I go by Betsy. I am a state breaststroker from Cedarburg, Wisconsin. I will graduate with the class of 2020 and this is my third year swimming varsity. I was part of the Sartell High School (Sartell, MN) State Swim Team during my freshman and sophomore years, and this year as a junior for Cedarburg High School. I achieved a personal best this year at State, going a 1:05.34 in the 100 Breast and placing 7th overall.
Three things that make me an asset to any swim program are: positive energy, adaptability and attention to detail. I think that I bring a unique energy to my team because I enjoy making people happy and making practice fun. In a sport that is as mentally and physically demanding as swimming, I feel that people work better and harder when they are happy and enjoy being there. I am also adaptable. My family relocated twice in the past 3 years and I have been able to successfully find my way into new schools, new swim teams and new communities. I feel that my adaptability will help me make a smooth transition to college. My attention to detail is what makes me a great breaststroker. Early in the season I focus on small details like starts, turns, underwaters, and body position, committing them to memory, so that I can use my energy to train harder as the season progresses.
I am open to any colleges in the country, but I am mainly looking toward at the midwest, the east coast and the southeast. While I prefer medium to large public schools with high regards in the sciences, I would consider a smaller school if it’s a strong match both athletically and academically. Division one or two is preferable, but I just want to get better and swim at a competitive level. Currently, my intended majors are exercise science, food science and nutrition or biochemistry. The school I’m looking for will help me achieve my academic goals as much as athletic goals. My realistic athletic goals are to continue to improve at the sport I love and compete at a high level. I also want to learn and experience as much of this sport as I can while building good and strong relationships with my teammates and coaches.
