Personal Statement
As a person, a student, and a tennis player, I have very similar goals; I want to be the best that I can be. As a person, I try to be kind and helpful to everyone. I volunteer at the Indianapolis Humane Society, I am a freshman mentor at my high school, I am in part of my class and student council committees, and I participate in the CAFÉ club, a club that discusses and addresses diversity and its inherent issues. In school, I aim to challenge myself, but I know when I am in over my head and need to reevaluate. I attend a rigorous college preparatory school, I am taking two AP classes this year, I am at the top of my class, and I am devoting time to practicing for the SAT’s and ACT’s. At tennis, I work hard and compete every chance I get. I play almost every day in clinics or with my private coach, I compete in tournaments as often as I can, and I have played number one for my high school team for the past two years. This past year I got to the quarter finals of the state tournament with my team, I got second in my qualifier, reached the quarterfinals of doubles in an 18’s level 2, won the Midwest section of Jr. Team Tennis playing the girl’s singles spot, I was chosen to participate in the Marian Wood Baird Team Cup, and played in a college showcase at North Central high school in July. My goals are to succeed as a college athlete, and to be able to balance that with my academic life.
