Personal Statement
My name is Katie Tynan. I am 16 years old, 5'7 and a junior attending Barnstable High School.
I began playing tennis at age four and have loved the sport ever since. I am a strong believer in the importance of being a student athlete. My school work has always come first and tennis second. I think it is crucial to maintain strong grades in the classroom as well as working hard on the court. I currently hold a 4.23 GPA and look to maintain and improve my academic achievements. I believe it is possible to maintain a good balance between athletics and academics.
Tennis has always been a huge part of my life and my love for it grows more every day. Through tennis I have gained both self confidence and integrity. The lessons that I have learned from playing this sport have translated into other parts of my life both social and academic. Over the course of these past 11 years I have spent endless hours on the court and gym working to improve every aspect of my game and I plan to continue to do so. I currently play 3-5 times a week and workout with a personal trainer on strength and conditioning 2-3 times a week. My hard work has translated into success in my 8th grade and freshman year on the high school tennis team. I was an 8th grader starting on the varsity lineup at the first doubles position. My partner and I finished the regular season undefeated and advanced to the Division IA Individual South Sectional final. My team went 21-2 in the season and individually my record was 21-0. Moving onto my freshman year I once again started on the varsity lineup at the one doubles position. My team went 25-1 in the season, losing in the State semifinal. My partner and I won the Division IA South Sectional final and proceeded to win the Individual State Doubles title.
Since I was younger playing tennis at a collegiate level has been a dream of mine. It would be an honor to know all of my hard work and efforts have payed off by eventually being able to play on a college team. I am looking to further improve my game as well as create new relationships with coaches and teammates while keeping up with my academics.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
