Personal Statement

My name is London Hunter and I’m currently a junior at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Maine. I played doubles for my high school team as a freshman and completed the season undefeated, helping the team to win a state championship. I received the Most Improved Player award for my contribution to the team that year. During my sophomore season, I started the season playing doubles, but soon transitioned to singles and went undefeated until a tie breaker loss in the regional championship at the end of the season. I was later selected as a KVAC Conference1st Team member by the coaches at surrounding schools. I have aspirations of becoming a team captain this year where I can support my teammates and provide leadership to help the team continue to be successful. I work hard both on and off the court. I spend time training, weight lifting, and practicing all year round. I’ve also begun taking private lessons this fall to further strengthen my skills.

Outside of tennis, I also enjoy sailing, skiing, dance, rock climbing and creating art. I like to challenge myself in the classroom by taking many advanced placement and honors classes. I also have experience volunteering at my local YMCA where I’ve assisted with tennis programs, including Aceing Autism, as well as done speaking engagements where I share my own positive experience of having grown up in YMCA youth tennis programs. For the past two summers I’ve worked full time as a dock hand at Hodgdon Yachts and I’d like to pursue some sort of career where I have the opportunity to work on or near the water. My goals are to play tennis in college while at the same time pursuing a maritime and related program. I enjoy traveling and new opportunities, and I am flexible and willing to go wherever the best fit for me might be. I look forward to an exciting, well rounded college experience, and know that tennis will be an important part of that journey.
