Tournament-tested Boyd Buchanan defeated previously undefeated Brainerd, 4-0, Thursday for the Region 3 A-AA tennis championship at the Brainerd Courts. The victorious Bucs have won five straight region titles, are 69-8 the past five years and will host Notre Dame next week in a state quarterfinal match with the winner advancing to the Spring Fling semifinals May 19 in Murfreesboro. The Bucs (9-1) had wins from Nos. 4-5 Taylor Monroe and Libby Reynolds, respectively for a 2-0 lead, followed by wins from seniors Makenna Thomas (No.2) and Katie DeLay (No.1) to clinch the team win. “We came in not really knowing what to expect, but knew Brainerd (6-1) was a good team,” said DeLay. “We were confident in our game and came ready to fight for every point and every game.” Thomas (10-0) and DeLay (9-0) stayed unbeaten on the season while No.3 Christina Amos (9-0) did not finish her match once the team victory was secure. “Katie and I have played in multiple district and regional tournaments the last few years, so I feel we are tournament tough and understand the importance of each post-season match,” said Thomas. Brainerd coach Al Canty said, “We didn’t play strong competition during the season and that showed today playing a good team for the region title. Next year we will play a tougher regular season schedule.” Boyd Buchanan Girls 4, Brainerd 0 No.1 Katie Delay (BBS) def. Yasmine Foster, 6-0, 6-1 No.2 McKenna Thomas (BBS) def. NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
