Personal Statement
I am Courtney Bernatz. Since birth I have strived down the right path to success both as an individual, student, and an athlete and have not turned my head any other way. I have been involved in as many sports as TaeKwonDo, Gymnastics, BMX, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, Golf, Surfing, Diving, Tennis, and Track and Field. Most of them I competed in and a few I just learned how to play for my own sake of loving sports. I have achieved as much as being a 1st Degree Black Belt who is actually registered in Korea and a yearly contender in BMX's prestigious Redline Cup. I have many awards, trophies, and successful embellishments to be proud of, but what I am most proud of is my Academics. Throughout my entire school career from a little child to a soon to be adult I have had high marks of Academic success. Because of all I have done to build a habit of being a hard worker, punctual, and dedicated person through my 11 years of education I am proud to say it lead me to having a 4.0 GPA now when it really counts. I plan to keep continuing down this path and staying strong beyond that moment when I get my diploma.
I am a student-athlete; First a student, then an athlete. As a student I aspire to be a Graphic Designer. As an Athlete I aspire to go to state this upcoming season. Realisticly I believe both of these are more than possible if I want it badly enough and work hard enough. I was once given a speech by my own Principal Mr. Peterson called "Train not Try"; It reminded me to not give myself the excuse that I am trying if persuing a goal gets hard, but Instead to make it happen. This may have been a speech meant for an athlete, but I took this in as a student as well. Good grades and test scores do not just come to those who only try and give themselves that temporary comfort if success does not happen. It comes to those who train and strive for it, giving no excuse to themselves for failure. I am Courtney Bernatz and I am a student-athlete who trains for my success.
