Hi, I'm Gabi Nascimento, a Senior at New West Charter High School in Los Angeles, CA. I've played competitive soccer for years, but in high school, I've become increasingly more passionate about running. During my sophomore year, I was honored to be the first person in my high school's history to make it to the California State Track and Field Competition (CIF). I have always pushed myself, to set and achieve new goals. My goal for my main event is to break 5 minutes for the 1600 before I graduate high school. For the past two years, I was selected as captain of my high school's Track and Field and Cross Country teams. I'm really excited to continue in this leadership role, support my team and also challenge myself by improving my time.
I hope to extend my running career to college. A preferred college location would be in or near an urban area with a diverse population, and perhaps an open curriculum as I'm interested in exploring different areas of study. I am looking for a medium-sized school, but I'm open and willing to explore a variety of options. My goal is to run Track and Field and Cross Country in college and attend an academically challenging university. Coming from a small high school, I am really looking forward to experiencing a team sports environment with coaches for college.
I'm involved in many extracurricular activities at school and in my community, but after family, my primary focus is doing well academically and running. I served as a Board Member in my temple youth group for two years, worked as a teacher's aid for two years at the Sunday school, completed a social justice interfaith youth program in Los Angeles in 2022-23, and I played for the city of Los Angeles in the 2022 summer Maccabi Games in San Diego. I volunteer for many community events, including beach clean-up, preparing and delivering needed goods for lower-income people, and I initiated an edible garden project at a local elementary school. This summer I worked at a locally-owned business. I am excited to train and improve my times for the coming season, and explore which colleges and universities will be a good fit for me following my senior year.
