Personal Statement
I am currently a junior and a middle to long distance runner from Waiakea High School. I specialize in the 5,000m and 3,000m runs, but I also like to chase running faster times in shorter distances such as the 1500m and 800m runs. I started out by running track in 8th grade to condition for HS volleyball. I then joined track my freshman year and realized how much I enjoyed the thrill of racing. I never stopped running since then and joined cross country my sophomore year and continued on with track. For the past 2 seasons that I joined cross country, I have always been the 2nd top runner of our varsity team, placed in the Top 20 out of over 200 girls at our meets, and qualified for the state championships. Last season, I placed 4th in the Varsity girls Division 1 BIIF cross country championship. Adding on to high school running, I also run for a club team, where I am a bronze medalist in the 1500m race and a silver medalist in the 3000m race for my age division at the Honolulu District Junior Olympics. During my off seasons of high school running, I like to train with our club team, where I constantly compete in various 5k races and the annual Hilo to Volcano 50k Ultramarathon, where my relay team holds the high school girls record and the women's course record. While running for this club, I have also competed at the Footlocker West Regional Cross Country Championships, where I placed 90th out of 253 runners in the Junior girls race as a Junior. On my free time, I work as an assistant coach for our running club and I help inspire young kids to have a passion for running as well. I am a highly motivated honors student with high hopes of running in college. Furthermore, as I continue to train for my Junior high school season of track, I want to be able to compete collegiately with the best runners out there under the supervision of coaches who can help me bring out my best as an athlete.
