Personal Statement
My parents introduced me to high level athletics at the young age of six. First there was travel soccer, which I played for seven years. Soon after came two years of travel softball and three years of travel volleyball. Although I was always a good athlete on these teams, one thing always stood out, I was the fastest runner on every team I played on. I have many great memories from those early days, but I also learned many important life lessons from my coaches and team mates. I learned work ethic, how to handle pressure, how to be a leader, a good winner, a good loser, and most of all, what it meant to be a team player. However, I also learned that I loved my team mates more than the sports I was playing.
Like many other 8th graders, I decided to go out for the middle school Track and Field team. Once I began running track, I knew I finally found the sport that would help define me as a person. I have not only gained confidence in myself on the track, but have also gained confidence as a person and in the classroom. I started focusing on track exclusively after my freshman year in High School and have really begun to see improvement in my times and splits.
I was fortunate enough to have started out with a great track and field coach, who has coached me for all three years through high school and club track. I have learned how to challenge myself, how to stay motivated and motivate others, and learned the value of teamwork. After three years on the Varsity Track team, I received awards for “Most Improved - 2015”, “Most Dedicated - 2016”, and “Scholar Athlete – 2015, 2016”, and also served as team captain my Junior year. In addition, I also hold or I am part of six school records. As a member of the Michigan Racers track club, I was a sprinter on three All-State indoor relays in 2016.
I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me both athletically and academically. Not only do I have the talent to compete for a college team, but the leadership, work ethic, and character to make an immediate impact in your program. I have what it takes to be a leader and an asset to your team!
