Qualifying for the Minnesota class AA Stae cross country meet as a team for the first time in our school history and being our top team finisher as an eighth grader has been the highlight of my high school career, so far. However, I feel that I grew as a student-athlete my seventh grade year when our team missed out on qualifying for the State cross country meet by two places. That experience helped me, as well as my team, grow and lead me to re-focus my own efforts and becoming a top-line varsity runner capable of competing at the college level.
I was fortunate enough to advance to the State cross country meet as an individual my freshman, sophomore and junior years. During my sophomore season, at the state cross country meet, I had the misfortune of collapsing during the race from dehydration and was able to get up and finish the race, but not anywhere near my goal time or place. My junior season of cross country, I struggled with low iron levels, which I just found out the week cross country season started in August. I have learned from these experiences by not taking anything for granted and to continue to push myself towards my future goals. Through running cross country and track, I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice, and leadership. I was voted team captain of the cross country team my sophomore, junior, and senior years, as well as most valuable runner of the team my 8th grade, freshman, sophomore and junior years. I have high personal goals for the rest of my high school career, as well as my college career.
I am looking for a program that would be a good athletic and academic fit for me. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character work-ethic, and leadership skills to make an impact on your program. As a three sport varsity athlete, who is on track to earn 16 varsity athletic letters, I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on your team!
