Hi, Carley Dondorfer here! I just finished my junior year at Lake Catholic Highschool located in Mentor, Ohio. I am a part of National Honors Society, Lake Catholic Ambassadors, and will be working this summer on the Homecoming committe!
I had a great, but challenging year, and I just really realized my love for running. After a constant back and forth debate whether or not I should be doing track this year, due to my focus that I was devoting to swim…I couldn’t have been happier with my decision to do track. I mostly spent this season just going wherever my coaches needed me to be to benefit the team, which included me running many different events and relays.
In a few duals, I ran the 100 and 200m dash. I also was the first leg on the 4x2 which was a race I really saw personal improvement on with my splits. This surprised me, but it was really fun to see where I was within these events. My main events were the 400, 4x4 and the 4x8. My biggest regret was choosing to be taken out of the open 400, because I truly believe I could’ve had a good performance at districts, and progressed to the regional meet in this event. I chose to just focus on my relays once again, because the day before the district meet, my grandmother passed away, and it really was a mental and physical battle that day to show up and be fully present, but with the help of my team and coaches we had a great showing and I benefitted lots from pushing through and enduring that. In the last three weeks of our season, i ran a 2:56, a 2:40, and a 2:29 split in the 4x8. We had such close competition at the regional meet, the spirits were high, and we had a goal of making podium, and we ended up placing 7th!
What sets me apart from other student athletes is my work ethic, my discipline, and my passion for improving myself and assisting in my teammates personal improvements as well. I believe my charecter would be an asset.
We have high hopes for next year, and with lots of hard work and sacrifices I truly believe we can make it to state in that event. I learned a lot from this season, and will incorporate this things I learned wherever my college journey leads me to!
