Personal Statement
I am Imani Mauzon a senior at White Knoll High School. I have been involved in extracurricular activities since the age of 5. I dance Ballet and Jazz with Columbia Conservatory of Dance 7 years. While there I performed in the Nutcracker 2 years. At White Knoll Middle School I was a member of the basketball team and started my track and field career. I was introduce to sprinting I enjoyed it so much I wanted to learn more about track and field. During the next 2 summers I enrolled in USATF junior olympics track team. Having a private coach that helped me learn and improve 100 and 200 meter dash and also the 4x100 relay. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to continue with track during the school year where I started long jump and triple jump. I came to realize I enjoy competing. I participate each of my high school years in the Miss Timberwolve pageants even being chosen as Miss popularity in 2016. I have enjoyed different adventures such as my three years volunteering as a junior volunteer at Palmetto Health Richland hospital, and participating in Peer mediation at White Knoll high school, as well as being employed as a cashier for the last three years. I realized my success depends on my self and I need to push myself to my full potential.
My inspiration comes from the example my mother has shown me, as a Registered Respiratory Therapist who has instilled a strong desire in me for education. I would like to pursue a medical career, as well as participate in athletics. As I look for colleges with track and field athletic opportunities, I need to also nurture my desires to help others.
I am excited about the goals that I have set for myself for my senior year. My goals are to have at least a 17 feet in the long jump, a 35 feet in the triple jump and increase my sprinting time to a 11 seconds in the 100m by the end of this track and field season.
