Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Faith Marroquin. I am a rising high school senior this year at West Anchorage high school in Anchorage, Alaska. I am the Concert Master Violinist of my school orchestra, varsity volleyball player, and have a Grade Point Average never falling below 3.8.

I have grown up in a military family my entire life; my mother is a member of the United States Air Force and my dad was a U.S. Marine. With that, I was afforded the opportunity to live in multiple states, countries, and experience many different cultures all across the globe. This ranged from the beautiful island of Japan, all the way to the Azore islands of Portugal. I have also had the privilege of experiencing the deserts of Arizona to the snowy hills of Alaska, to the heartland of America’s Midwest, Nebraska. Along with those perks came constant travel, moving, and frequently changing schools. My transition of switching to multiple high schools was the most difficult obstacle for me, but I chose to overcome it. I got involved in those communities hoping I could make a positive impact. I was able to serve our military veterans at local retirement homes. I would perform violin pieces for them and would somehow always lose to them on bingo night Wednesdays. Through that wonderful experience I recognized one of my passions was the love of serving others.

My education is very important to me, and with a good foundation and the support of my family, I have worked hard over the years to make my education a priority.  I wanted to ensure my efforts led me to a chance at attending some of the greater educational institutes the United States has to offer. I understand the meaning of working hard and having the drive and determination to succeed.

Specifically, I am very interested in the Criminal Justice field. In particular, Forensic Psychology is at the height of my focus. If you're looking for a versatile student-athlete who's overcome tremendous adversity and epitomizes resilience than look no further.
