There isn't a better feeling than getting low on defense and making a perfect dig off a great hit from the other team. I only have a few seconds to find out where the set is going, get myself into a defensive position, and make that timely dig to give our team a chance to attack. However, in that moment when I am moving around and getting ready to make that dig, I'm in my element. I am in my happy place. Once that dig pops up and we win the point, the excitement that runs through my body is palpable. Our whole team, the spectators, they all cheer loudly. There's not a better feeling!
I always hear that serve/receive is one of the hardest things to do in volleyball. A serve that comes at you at a fast pace, or a serve that is consistently moving around before it gets to you. What about short serves? Volleyball athletes have vicious serves and are only going to get harder and harder to pass. I take so much pride in getting that first contact and keeping our team in system and getting points. I know that in those situations, I've done my job.
I've played numerous positions growing up. I have been a setter, because our team didn't have a consistent setter. So, I learned the position. I played Outside Hitter because our team needed some help in that area. So, I learned the position. I played my hardest in any position I was asked to do because I always wanted to win more than anything. No matter what. However, it wasn't until I moved to a new club at T Street Volleyball, where I fell in love with the concept of being a libero. I am a team player throughout and will do whatever is needed to help make our team better, I just want to win.
Volleyball has given me the outlet to rely on when things aren't going well at home or at school. Tournaments and practices give me that much needed relief from all the studying for tests and assignments that are due. It gives me a release from the COVID pandemic that swept our world and took away a season from me. The competitive spirit in me did not let the pandemic slow down my training. It may have cancelled our season, but it did not stop me from getting better on my own.
My mentality is and always will be, "No matter how hard I'm working, someone else is working harder." I take this to heart in everything that I do whether it be school or volleyball. I maintain a 4.3 GPA and definitely see my hard work paying off not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. To me, volleyball is a stepping stone to hopefully get me into a prestigious university, where I can learn the necessities to succeed in the future.
