My name is Grace Ridley and I live in Dalton, Georgia. Family has always been a very important part of my life. Being the youngest out of four with three older brothers, I was made to be very competitive and that drive has helped me with sports tremendously. I am a multi-sport athlete, participating in both Varsity Volleyball and Basketball. I've played both since I was in 2nd grade and have loved and continue to love them every day. I love Volleyball because it not only exemplifies my competitive drive but also let's me work and demonstrate my leadership abilities, problem-solving, and team work. Because of these qualities I think I would be a excellent candidate for a collegiate for your team. I have a 4.3 GPA and take every available AP course provided at my High School. I am determined to succeed at the collegiate level and I think I would be a great fit for a collegiate level volleyball team.
Through my experiences in sports, I have learned that I am a highly motivated and competitive person. I have learned leadership is not just for those that have been there the longest or that get the most time on court. Leadership happens in the classroom, in practice, and in those moments you are working hard when no one else is looking. Leadership isn’t something you happen into, it is something earned and although putting it into words is important, it is more important to live it by example. Like Pat Summit said, “You can’t always be the strongest or most talented or most gifted person in the room, but you can be the most competitive.” I am a worker and I am competitive in that way. I will work and do whatever a coach asks me to do to benefit the team. This is the type of leadership and competitiveness I can bring to a team - the willingness to do whatever it takes.
