Personal Statement
I always strive for excellence in all of my pursuits. I have always been an honor student. I was awarded Student of the Year for 5th through 8th grade at Ursuline Academy for my academic and extra-curricular accomplishments. I served as a Class Representative for 5th and 6th grade, and the Student Body President for the entire elementary and middle schools in 7th grade. I have served as Class President in high school since 8th grade. Since 9th grade, I have been elected unopposed showing a strong vote of confidence from my peers. I believe that speaks volumes of my leadership ability.
As a junior at Ursuline Academy, I have a cumulative GPA of 4.59, pursuing an honors diploma. Most of my classes are honors classes. I am ranked 3 out of 91 students in my class. I came in First Place in District Literary Rally representing Ursuline in Latin II Honors. I came in First Place in State Literary Rally representing Ursuline in Latin II Honors. I came in Third Place in the District Literary Rally for Spanish I Honors.
As a freshman, I was a member of the Varsity Tennis Team. My Ursuline Academy Tennis Team came in First Place in the Region. My doubles team came in Second Place in the Region. I made it to the Quarterfinals in the State Tennis Playoffs. I was awarded Most Valuable Player for 2012-2013.
As a freshman, I played on the Varsity Volleyball Team. I also played on the Junior Varsity Volleyball Team. Most days, I would play a total of 8 games (3 for JV and 5 for Varsity). I started out on the Junior Varsity Team as the starting setter and team captain. I played in every Junior Varsity Game from start to finish, unless the schedule conflicted with the Varsity Team's games in which case I played on the Varsity Team. My Junior Varsity Team won district.
Ursuline had won three volleyball state championships within the last four years, yet it began this season with a 0-5 losing record. Our head coach, Jay Jay Juan, moved me and two other players up from the Junior Varsity Team at Game 6. I was placed into the Game 6 as the setter and we won that game and every game thereafter including the playoffs and the Louisiana State Championship Game. Even as a freshman, I provided experience and leadership on the volleyball court. In Game 5 of the final championship game, my team was down by 5-0. I rotated into the game at that point and my team came back to win.
I have been playing private club ball since 5th grade. I have served as my team's captain since 6th grade. My Blue Crab 14 Team won the bid for Louisiana to compete in the National Championship held in Ohio last year. Playing in Ohio was extremely exciting. This summer, I played in the AAU National Championship held in Orlando, Florida.
For the past two years, my Blue Crab Team competed in the AAU Volleyball National Competition. The AAU Volleyball National Executive Committtee selected me as one of 60 recipients of the Academic All American Award in 2013 and 2014. The award recognizes athletes of the AAU Volleyball program for their excellence in academics as well as atheltics. All recipients participated in the 40th AAU Girls' Junior National Volleyball Championships and were selected from nominations received during the event. In October 2013, my Ursuline Varsity team clenched the title in District 8-III. My team made it to the semi finals for our division. http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/2650484414423799413/lauren-barre-ursuline-clinch-the-district-8-iii-title-with-a-sw/. I had 24 assist and 5 aces in that game. I was designated an All District Player for 2014. I received the Coaches' Award for outstanding play and leadership in 2013. This year, I was designated as the top returning player at Ursuline, which has been forecasted to win District.
I would love to play volleyball and tennis in college. I plan to major in Sports Medicine, with a minor in foreign languages. It is my goal to own my own athletic training facility and club volleyball team.
I am a solid setter and defensive specialist that could come in and lead a college team as a Freshman. I am competitive, fiery, and a leader. I play every game with passion, heart and desire. I want the ball and I want to win. I exhibit communication, coverage and celebration in every play. I can run a 5-1 faster tempo offense. If you are looking for a scholar, an athlete, and a leader, then please consider me.
