Hi, my name is Mia Fornasiero, and volleyball has been my passion since I was ten, when a clinic flier showed up at my elementary school. At age 11, I started my volleyball club journey, and soon decided to put basketball and swimming aside and all my effort into becoming the best I could be at it. I was a starting Libero on the top 12U and 13U MEVC club teams and was recognized as the friendly team player on the court. As each season went by, I became more serious about volleyball and dreamed to become a collegiate athlete and play at the highest level.
I have always been a determined girl and try to use all the resources available to help me. At age 13 I made the MVSA club team, where I found my volleyball family. Our MVSA Force 14U team was ranked 2nd in the Chesapeake region and got a bid to USAV Nationals. It was such an amazing experience at Nationals playing awesome teams from all over the country, and watching the very best in the Open finals! While specializing in the back row, I am a very well-rounded player so I can always step in to play the role my team needs. I was a DS/OH All-Around Starter my MVSA 15U club season and was honored to be chosen by my teammates and coaches as a co-captain! I worked hard to help our team finish in the top three at nine tournaments and we finished ranked in the Top 10% nationally and regionally. I have a positive mindset, which turns my mistakes into learning opportunities. I take sportsmanship very seriously knowing it can make or break a team
Volleyball has helped me learn so much about leadership, positivity, managing my time and being part of a high-performance team. I apply that to my academics, which are extremely important to me. I've always worked hard as a student and was proud to finish my freshman year with straight A's in all my subjects. My favorite classes are history and writing, and I love debating with my family and friends. I’m still undecided about my major and am excited to explore the different options as I go through high school.
The last three summers I immersed myself in a dozen competitive volleyball camps and three college showcases to continue improving my game working with college coaches and players which grew my skills and mentality on and off the court. I learned so much first-hand from them how to be a stronger competitor and what they are looking for when they recruit athletes for their teams. I was very proud to be selected for three digging/libero awards given out at the camps. My awesome experience at my MVSA club and the summer camps helped me earn a varsity starter spot at Bullis my freshman and sophomore years. I was a Starting DS my freshman and sophomore year at Bullis, where I also play OH and Libero in some matches. We were so happy to finish with the best volleyball record in Bullis history at 12-4 my freshman year and we ranked in the top 5% in the DC metro finishing up my sophomore year.
I've been very fortunate to have such awesome coaches at MVSA and Bullis that have helped me. I'm really enjoying playing for MVSA Sparks, their top 16U team this season. We're ranked 5th in the CHRVA region and so excited to have earned a bid to USAV Nationals in Las Vegas this summer!
