Personal Statement
Hello Coaches,
Since I started playing club volleyball in the 7th grade, I fell in love with the sport and knew I wanted to play in college. My drive and determination are evident in all aspects of my life. I have an outstanding academic track record in school with a 4.0 GPA and work very hard to keep in that way. From the very beginning, academics has always come first in our family and I know that without a great education I won’t be able to fulfill my career goals of becoming a successful judge. This past summer, I started my internship at the District of Columbia Attorney General’s Office. As a summer intern, I was the only high school student in the program. I was able to learn from my fellow college interns and receive some wisdom about their college experiences.
Also, since I started playing volleyball later than most of my teammates, I’m constantly working hard on my game to get even better. For example, although I’m in the Class of 2019, I continue to play up an age level which has definitely helped with my growth and development.
As you make your decision for the class of 2019 middle blocker/right side position, there are certain characteristics I believe will make me a great fit for your program.
1.) Hard worker (outside of club practices; I’m a gym rat with weekly strength/conditioning and private volleyball workouts).
2.) Coachable (Take directions well and strive to improve)
3.) Academics (I have a 4.0 GPA; while taking AP classes). I’m a member of the National Honor Society and participant in Student Government)
4.) Challenges (I played up an age group on the 17’s team last year and currently playing on the 18’s OPEN Travel team this year)
5.) Personality (Passionate, Discipline and Fun)
Finally, I plan on continuing to work hard to make my volleyball and academic dreams come true. I hope that you will consider me for your program. I appreciate your time.
Sincerely,
Taylor James
