Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Sydney Gunter and I am currently a junior at Sanderson High School. I hope to find a place at the right school for my sports career and my future education. I would be very interested in the field of communications or journalism since I have a passion for writing stories and dream of writing and self publishing my own novels or articles. When I am playing volleyball, I like to be a positive source of energy and encouragement for my team; to be able to control the mood and motivation of others so they don't get down on themselves. I am also very willing to learn new things as well as try different things ( Including taking suggestions that I don't do normally when on the court). I am very coachable and very willing to do things that are beneficial for myself, teammates, family and friends, therefore giving me the opportunity to shine as a volleyball player and an individual. As of 2014 I have earned my Varsity Letter; and I hope to commit some time after AUUs - 2015.
I work hard in the the classroom to overcome a learning disorder which affects math. I combat my academic disadvantage in math by studying hard, taking advantage of study halls and seeking extra test preparation. I focus on organization and work closely with my math teachers to ensure my academic success. This is one reason I love volleyball. It is an outlet that comes easily for me, I understand the court and can allow my natural athleticism to work for me. I know the lessons I learned in high school will help me to succeed academically in college. I am ready for the challenge of college, and college volleyball!
