My name is Demi Spanos, currently a junior in high school, and I’ve been playing competitive volleyball since 7th grade. I'm so excited as I look forward to playing at the college level. I've been fortunate enough to play for and contribute to three great teams during these years. First, as a three year starter for Walter Panas High School, where we finished runner-up in the New York State finals in 215, and then were the NYS champions this past Fall of 2016. Second, as a member of the Downstate Athletic Club in Peekskill, NY, where we were fortunate enough to compete in the National Championships in Indianapolis, IN, in 2016. For this current season, I switched over to play for NYC Juniors, where we came in first place in our first tournament in Hartford, CT. We continue to play competitively against excellent competition, and I feel my skills are improving every week. The reason for the switch was to give myself an opportunity to learn a different system and broaden my knowledge of the game. Each year I've played, I've learned more about the game, and more about myself, allowing me to improve each season. While my main position is right side, one of the things I'm most proud of is that my coaches feel comfortable having me play anywhere on the court, so I also have experience as an outside hitter and in back row. While I'm most proud to have accomplished a lot of success as a member of some great teams, I am also proud to have earned some individual honors in 2016: namely all-section, all-conference, and all-state teams.
Through all of the success that I've been fortunate to contribute to, my favorite memories are those of being a great teammate. My teammates can rely on me for support and a continual positive attitude. There is a fun article in the New York Journal News dated October 2016 highlighting this.
My hobbies include spending time with friends and family. I love being around people who can make me laugh and I love making people feel comfortable.
My future goal is to have a job that I will love getting up every day to go to. Although I don’t know what that job will be, I’m interested in psychology and physical therapy because helping people is a great feeling.
