Personal Statement
I am a great candidate for your team because I love to play volleyball and am a positive and supportive team player. I constantly strive to improve my skills and strength and always encourage the other members of my team to be their very best.
I began playing club volleyball at fourteen when I was chosen to play on the NYC Juniors 14 National team. Because I started club volleyball a couple years later than many of my teammates, I had to work extremely hard to catch up. By the time I was sixteen, I was starting on a highly competitive 17 National club team. Playing on these teams has been incredibly rewarding. I have learned to push myself physically and mentally and to recover quickly from tough losses, injuries and other difficult situations. I have developed strong friendships with girls who I respect for their outstanding talents and dedication to volleyball. And I have learned what it takes to succeed as a member of a team – be positive and encouraging to others, be tough but flexible and work hard always! I believe these qualities will help me to succeed in life.
I attend The Spence School, a highly selective private all-girls school in New York City, so I know what it takes to balance a challenging course load and demanding sports commitments. In college, I would like to continue to learn at a high academic level and to play competitive volleyball so I am looking for a school that is a good fit for me both athletically and academically. I am confident that through hard work and positive attitude I will make great contributions to any college on and off the court.
