Personal Statement
I am currently a senior at Dillon High School in Dillon, South Carolina. I was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. I moved to my mother's hometown of Dillon, SC in 2011. I lived in PA for 11 years, and I've lived in SC for 6. I plan on attending a 4 year university, majoring in broadcasting and communications. My goal is to become a sports broadcaster. I have visited over 10 different colleges up and down the East coast, ranging from Yale, to Brown, to Penn State, to Pitt, and University of South Carolina and Clemson. I have seen a variety of different colleges, and I have loved them all the same. I've played softball since 4th grade, and I started playing volleyball in 8th grade. I am a part-time hostess at the Peddler Steakhouse in Dillon; I work every Friday and Saturday. I play sports year round; softball and volleyball both start right after the other. I am playing with Sumter Juniors Club Volleyball in Sumter, SC, but I was invited by Club Coastal out of Pawleys Island, SC to join them with their extended season.
My current GPA is a 4.45/5.0. I have been in the Gifted and Talented Program since second grade. Some of my extracurricular activities include: Anchor Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Beta Club and Youth Group. Also, I am a Student Ambassador for the GEAR UP program.
I began taking online dual-enrollment college classes with Florence-Darlington Technical College in summer 2015. I have taken 7 classes all together. When I'm not working, playing, or at school, I spend my time at youth group, reading, and I try to study as much as possible while keeping a social life. I started JV softball my ninth and tenth grade year, and I dressed out for varsity softball at the beginning and the end of the regular season of my tenth grade year. I started volleyball in 8th grade, playing junior varsity. I started almost all but a couple JV games in 8th grade. By my second year playing, my freshman year, I was a starting JV player. I was also moved up to play varsity before the season started. My third year playing (my sophomore year), I was a varsity starter. I started at libero halfway through my tenth grade season. In my fourth year playing volleyball with DHS as a junior, I am a starter and the Libero for our team. I am also the Libero for my club volleyball team.
I was named to the All-Region team my junior & senior year (2015/2016). I Was named to the All-State team my senior year (2016). I was the defensive MVP for my school team both my junior and senior year, leading in digs my junior and senior year, and aces my senior year as well.
I set my goals high and I intend to achieve every single one of them. I stepped onto the court for the first time in the summer of 2011, right before my eighth grade year. I hustled through try-outs and made the JV team. As expected, I wasn't too good at first, but as the year went on, I got better and better better. By my second year playing, I was a starter on JV, and I was moved up to varsity before the season started. I knew that I had a lot of potential, but It was up to me to reach my goals. Ever since my first day of practice in 2011, I have faced many wins, some losses, tears, sweat, blood, and a LOT of floor burn and bruises. It had all led up to the player I am today. There isn't a day that goes by that I ever get tired of playing. I love volleyball, and I am very thankful that I get to experience such a great game!
