Personal Statement
Volleyball is my sport. It is what I love and I am passionate about it. Growing up in South Florida, I participated in various sports, but I quickly learned that my love for the game of volleyball far outweighed my interest in other activities.
I am a person that sets goals and dedicates myself to achieving them. I recognize that that my goals can only be achieved through hard work and dedication.
I have been playing volleyball for nearly 6 years and I have learned that just being a good athlete does not necessarily make you a good volleyball player. Leadership is also an essential characteristic of each player on the team. As in any team sport, the greatest of players know that they need all of the players including those on the sidelines to win…not just once but every time that the ball is in motion.
Learning this has helped me in my dedication to not only improving my skills in the sport and doing my part on the court, but has also encouraged me to maintain my 4.125 GPA while enrolled in challenging honors and AP classes. In addition to maintaining high academic standards, among other documented accomplishments, I am a recent graduate of the most prestigious youth leadership program in the world; the FBI National Academy Youth Leadership Program, (Session # 16, July 2014), FBI Headquarters, Quantico, Virginia. Only 60 students from around the world are selected to attend each year.
Participation in any sport requires a great deal of dedication and training. Once you find your passion, it makes it easier to follow that path. Over the past 5 years, I have seen a substantial improvement in my overall fitness performance level. My commitment to the sport has helped to me hit harder, jump higher and has improved my agility.
I know that all of my hard work and dedication will assist me in achieving my goals which are to;
Improve my stats, better my game, help lead my team, and be an inspiration to others…and of course to play college Volleyball! I know that there are literally thousands of volleyball players that submit applications for coveted positions on the collegiate level, so the question is why me over other applicants? Yes, I qualify academically and possess the qualities of a good citizen and good student leader, but my aspiration to become a stronger player and my passion for the game has steered me towards an even more important role… to leave a legacy to the thousands of young women volleyball players who hope to one day also achieve this goal.
