Personal Statement
I am a Senior at Brighton High School in Brighton, Colorado. I am a 3 time state Qualifier in 5A and placed 5th at 152lbs my Junior year. I am the 2017 CUSAW Colorado champion for Freestyle and Greco and will be wrestling in Fargo for the Colorado National Team. I have been a varsity wrestler since my freshman year and am a Team captain. I was awarded second team all conference for the EMAC conference as a freshman and Junior and runner up my Sophomore year. I was awarded most outstanding wrestler by my coaches for the 2014/2015 season which is the first time a freshman has been awarded this honor at Brighton. I was also nominated for the outstanding freshman athlete award for 2014/2015 for Brighton High School. I currently hold three school records for pull ups at BHS. Prior to high school wrestling, I wrestled for Brighton Wrestling club for 10 years and wrestled for my middle school team at Bromley East Charter School. Over those 10 years I received a number of awards and titles as a youth and middle school wrestler both locally and nationally at tournaments like Brute Nationals, Colorado All State Championship, Colorado Metro Junior Wrestling League Championships, New Mexico National Showdown, Midwest Classic Nationals, Skyline Middle School League Championships (I had 1 loss in my 3 years of wrestling in middle school). Some of my stats from the national tournaments I have competed in are on TrackWrestling.com.
I enjoy wrestling for the physical and mental endurance and dedication required to compete in this sport. I love the individual challenge of facing my opponent on the mat and also enjoy the team aspect of wrestling that is experienced in high school wrestling.
When I am not wrestling, I play football, and cross train with a sports performance coach, lift weights, do cross fit and go to wrestling and football camps to improve my skills, strength and agility. I was a defensive starter on the varsity football team my sophomore year as a linebacker and also played fullback. I was an offensive and defensive starter my Junior year as a middle linebacker, fullback and was also a punter. I was named as an All Conference Honorable Mention as a linebacker my Junior year. My other interests outside of sports include fishing, hunting, snowboarding, fly tying and just spending time outdoors and in the mountains. My Christian faith is important to me, however I do respect others' views.
I have not completely decided on a major, but I am currently interested in the fields of environmental engineering, wildlife biology and fishery wildlife biology or microbiology. I really enjoy both the physical and biological sciences. I received the 2014 Excellence in Science Award at Bromley East Charter School that is awarded to a single student each year. I am enrolled in honors and advanced placement classes at Brighton High School. I traveled to Alaska the summer of 2016 for a science credit in which we studied environmental studies and ecology.
