Aloha, my name is Tyger Taam. I’m from Honolulu, Hawaii (Oahu) and I’m currently a Junior at Moanalua High school. I am currently 17 years old and was born and raised in Hawaii. I love to spend time with my close ones, friends and my dog, George. In my free time, I like to read, try to make some side money so I can have a little something when I go to college and I like to workout so I can get bigger, stronger, more confident and improve my body & self.
I’ve done wrestling ever since I was 5 years old and love the sport since day 1 where I first stepped on the mat, wrestling with my bare feet. I eventually improved as years came where I competed in small state tournaments and eventually worked my way up to going to nationial tournaments. At first, I didn’t do very well but just went back in the wrestling room to perfect my craft where I then later started to place more at tournaments as time went on. I have been traveling to national tournaments for 10 years specifically World of Wrestling Tournaments in Reno and Tulsa and also Fargo, Super 32, Virginia Beach High School, Doc Buchanan, Rocky Mountain Nationals, US Open, Western Regionals and Reno Tournament of Champions and they‘ve helped me grow as a wrestling athlete.
I’ve also trained Judo for ten years and entered quite a few Judo Nationals with a Three National Titles. Ive gotten invited to be on the USA National Team and got to go travel with them to International Competition representing USA in Athens, Greece where I placed second at a International tournament. I’ve also trained Jiu Jitsu for four years and had competed in local tournaments and NAGA with experience in the winning the expert open divisions.
In high school, I ended up going undefeated in my freshmen 132lb year, sophomore 138lb year and Junior 138 lbs. year with a total record of 67-0. I ended up taking home 3 state championships for the three years and I was ranked pound-for-pound 5th my freshmen year and 2nd my sophomore year and currently into my junior year ranked #1, eager for a 4rd state championship becoming one of Hawaii’s 4x state champion.
Besides that, I would love to take myself to the next level of wrestling; NCAA wrestling. I am eager and would like the opportunity to experience college wrestling. I want to train diligently and perfect my craft, gain friendships with my teammates and coaches and open to learn from the best. In addition, I’m really looking forward to experiencing the college life, learning how to get around and live independently, experience new places, and meet tons of new people.
As an athlete, I strive to be the hardest worker in the room and always looking to improve of all aspects of my game. My willingness to learn is what is important to myself and I know I can always improve and develop for the next level. I will look forward to reaching out to you all and hope to learn from the best.
Best Regards,
Tyger Taam
