Personal Statement
"Embrace the process!" Our coach frequently emphasizes that and I think that is one of the most important things I have learned from wrestling. When I started wrestling as an eighth grader, I was the hyper, impatient, ADHD kid who lacked self-discipline and had no idea about how important it is to set goals. Wrestling has changed all of that! I was thrilled to accomplish one of my short term goals this year when I became a State Qualifier, and I will continue to pursue my next goal of becoming a State Champion. Looking back now, I can see how the Lord has used this great sport to completely change my path in life. I have changed from the person who couldn't care less about his grades into the student who understands how crucial it is to earn strong grades and have a solid education. Even with my ADHD, I have learned how to manage my time and energy to achieve a respectable 3.55 WGPA. Now, I not only strive to become an accomplished collegiate wrestler, but also strive to earn a college degree in preparation for a successful career in the medical field. I am so thankful for the many character traits I have learned from wrestling. Humility, work ethic, perseverance and integrity are just a few of the tools this great sport has ingrained within me. I have learned how to win! I have learned how to lose. But most important, I have learned how to keep pushing on even when it feels like I have nothing left to give. I look forward to finding the college that is the best fit for both me and for the college. All the while, I will continue to "embrace the process" as I strive daily to become a better wrestler and a better man.
