What the Coaches are Saying...
Sep 11, 2018

“Dear Recruit, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Gordon College and our men’s basketball program. Gordon is a nationally ranked, four-year liberal arts institution and the only nondenominational Christian College in New England. Located on Boston’s North Shore, the College is 25 miles north of the city and just two miles from the Atlantic Coast. As such a desired athlete, you will undoubtedly receive dozens, if not hundreds, of letters from colleges interested in you. You should take the time to respond to this one if: ? You are a Christian young man. As a Christian College, Gordon strives to educate individuals distinguished by Christian character and intellectual maturity, willing to serve others and accept leadership roles worldwide. Students from 39 states and 26 countries give Gordon an international ethos while retaining the personal touch a college of 1,500 students can provide. All students and faculty are professing Christians that desire to live and learn in a Christian environment and community. ? You want a nationally recognized college education. U.S. News & World Report lists Gordon among the “best national liberal arts colleges”. Gordon also appears as one of 100 schools on the John Templeton Foundation’s Honor Roll of Character-Building Colleges as well as on the Fiske Guide to Colleges’ “best and most interesting colleges and universities” list. Gordon offers 36 undergraduate majors leading to degrees in the arts, sciences and music, and is a charter member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. ? You want to compete at a high level of college athletics. Over the past eight years the Fighting Scots have compiled an overall record of 145-73 (.665 winning percentage), including 87-33 (.725) in The Commonwealth Coast Conference, and a 21-7 record this past season. The Scots also won three regular season TCCC championships, the 2010 conference tournament and advanced to the 2006 and 2010 NCAA Men’s National Championship Tournament. The Fighting Scots compete at the NCAA Division III level and practice and play in the Bennett Athletic Center, a multi-million dollar facility completed in 1996. As you can see, we have achieved nationally recognized and competitive programs in both academics and athletics all within a Christian framework of faith. Our goal is to continue to build on these accomplishments. Few schools combine a sincere Christian environment, academic excellence, and competitive basketball program as does Gordon College. We hope that you are a young man that is interested in developing spiritually, academically and athletically during your college career. We will look forward to developing a relationship with you as the recruiting process continues. Also, please send along any full length game film you may have to the address below and go to our basketball home page and fill out the questionnaire so we have your information in our files. God Bless, Tod Murphy Head Men’s Basketball Coach Gordon College”
