My name is Matthew Botticelli. My birthdate is November 6, 2007. I am 6’3” and 175lbs. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a high level baseball player. My goal is to play for a College in the US. I have adapted all the areas of my life to support this. I am committed to a daily workout program focused on strength and flexibility training which allows me to maintain a fitness level that enhances my baseball performance in agility and my confidence.
I have been playing baseball and hockey since I was 5 years old. As a two-sport athlete I have learned a lot about myself through these sports. Many of my character traits that I demonstrate in my day-to-day life are directly attributed to what I have been taught through a team environment. As part of a baseball team and a hockey team, I learned to embrace my vulnerability, allowing me to constantly improve in my performance. I am driven for personal success but I learned the way to achieve this is also through success as a team. At 13 years old I became injured and it was through my perseverance and dedication to overcome this obstacle that I was back at it and in top condition in no time. My experiences and observations in baseball allowed me to listen to my emotions; demonstrating a calm and controlled demeanour whether feeling at a high or low point in the game. I knew how I wanted to be as an individual and a teammate. I am an individual of strength, accountability, reliability, and predictability on the baseball field and on the ice. With years of many different coaches and coaching styles I became a person who exhibits respectful and engaging behaviour towards all adults and peers. This is something I really like about my character and have carried this through to the classroom also. Travelling with the team for tournaments has allowed me to gain independence in my ability to stay organized, punctual and comfortable to do what is required to maintain a positive disposition, peak performance and success within my team. With the structure and focus that I learned at an early age through these sports, I utilize the same stride when it comes to school, my academic performance is important to me and I have had honours consistently throughout. In baseball, I learned early on the importance of supporting your teammates and being supported. I learned through both sports that I needed to work with other players that may not be like me but to respect what they bring to the team. This ideology has helped me to embrace my teammates. I have always been told how coachable I am, I now understand that my openness and willingness to become better and better at both of these sports has driven me to be someone who is 100% invested in whatever I am doing, whether it is playing baseball, working out, volunteering within my community with younger players to help them achieve their goals, spending time with friends and family, or pursuing high marks in school.
In August of this year I was scouted at a showcase tournament and was asked to play for Team Alberta in the Western Canada Prospects Series. I was ready and honoured and 1 of only 20 players chosen in Alberta to play for the team. My goal is to attend a College where I can play baseball and study architecture. I am on the path to achieve this and I will continue it to build my portfolio as a baseball player.
