Austin Merkel '17 Recruiting Profile

My name is Austin Merkel and I am a junior at Phoenix Country Day School in Phoenix Arizona. I have loved baseball my entire life and it is my goal to pitch in college.  I realized that I wanted to play baseball in college at the age of eleven when I moved abroad to Sweden. There was no youth baseball team in my town in Sweden so I couldn't play for the two years I lived there.  When I returned to the U.S. I immediately got back into baseball and worked hard to regain my skills.  I still love baseball and I am having a great time playing for my high school. I expect college to be the time where I grow and get better academically and athletically. I hope to be able to contribute to the school that I attend both on the mound and in the locker room.  I love being a part of a team and experiencing the camaraderie among teammates that comes with the common goal of winning. It is my goal to find a college coach that sees my potential and is excited to help me improve my skills in order to reach my full potential. I want college to be a time where I work hard to get better both in the classroom and on the field and have fun doing it. I believe I have the potential to contribute to a team in a big way and I look forward to getting the chance to prove it.
