Garrett Taylor '19 Recruiting Profile

Growing up in a baseball family, I have watched baseball on television and at the field since I was a baby. I always found myself looking at the catcher and how his play influences the game. Although a San Diego boy, I was drawn to the play of San Francisco Giant, Buster Posey,and his ability to frame pitches and block potential wild pitches. He takes great pride in his pitching staff, and I have always tried to do the same. I am a catcher from top to bottom. I am extremely quick and agile, and I am able to block many balls most catchers wouldn’t think they could get a glove on. As my pitchers say, I boost their confidence when I am behind the plate, and like Buster Posey, I take pride when my pitchers are showered with accolades during tournaments. It is my job to make a good pitcher a great pitcher, and that is what I do on a consistent basis. My second goal during games is to strike fear into any runner who makes it to the base paths, and I look forward to the chance to throw them out. I have a consistent pop time at 2.0 and have continued to work to be faster.

As a leader on and off the field, I can command the game by reading the hitters and providing guidance to my teammates. I have the talent and athletic ability to step in and play for a college team. I am a great student of the game and read hitters to determine the best way to get them out.  I am also a reliable and consistent hitter at the plate. This summer I batted .419 for my Summer Team San Diego Stars and was over .500 with runners in scoring position.  My leadership with the bat lead our teams to multiple victories this summer, including the Prospect Wire LA Invitational.

I am a student-athlete who is willing to put in the time, effort, and pride to be the best representative for the school. I love the sciences and would like to play for a school with a program in biological sciences. I have worked hard in my science classes, maintaining the highest academics, and hope I can continue to build my knowledge to make new biological discoveries in the future. As a captain on the field and in the classroom, I know I can lead my team and classmates to be the best they can be, and I will do that for your team.
