I knew that I was going to be a catcher since I was two years old when I was given my first set of catcher's gear. As the youngest in my family with two older brothers who also played baseball, I quickly fell in love with not only baseball but the position of catcher. From throwing a guy out stealing to quietly taking away a strike for my team, everything about catching brings me great satisfaction. The most important thing I have learned from baseball is that it is primarily a game of failure. A player can hit the ball three out of ten times and still be a hall of famer. For me, failure makes me evaluate my deficiencies and motivates me to become a better student and player. I learn from failure and use what I learn to win. In order to win and truly appreciate winning, one must know the taste of losing.
My goal for college is to attend a school with an elite baseball program that can help me expand on my athletics and my baseball IQ. I have been told by my peers that I am a natural leader and that I have a knack for holding myself and my team members accountable and encouraging my team members to perform at a higher level. After living in Southern California my entire life, I would like to attend a college that challenges me, exposes me to a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and broadens my experiences with baseball, peers and participation in the community. More importantly, I want to find a place where my confidence, motivation, work ethic and leadership can be put to use.
