To me, this quote is particularly powerful. All my life, I've had to struggle with preconceived notions of size in athletics. Being below average in stature, I've constantly been forced to prove myself - that I can match those who fit the burgeoning standard of 6' and above step for step. I've come to turn this initial weakness into a strength; while they may have the gift of size, they will never match my work ethic. In my eyes, nothing is granted - it must be earned through hard work. This tenacity is what I bring to the table, not just in athletics, but in academics as well. I welcome the prospects of a challenge with open arms, as I believe I perform best under pressure. Whether I'm responsible for the game-winning run in a championship game or completing an assignment in the classroom, I will put forth nothing short of my best effort.
