I am a submarine pitcher with a variety of pitches who typically enters a game in middle relief or to close. When I enter the game, I provide a very different look to opposing batters who are used to seeing a normal pitching motion and mine catches them off guard and takes a few innings to get used to. This typically results in a fair number of strikeouts and ground balls which my teammates handle with ease. I will make a good addition to any college bullpen because I provide a unique look to my opponents and a very different look than what they are used to seeing.
I am a motivated and hard working athlete looking forward to both continuing my academic career in the fields of computer science and/or business while continuing to perfect my submarine pitch and playing baseball at the college level. As a sophomore in high school, I decided to switch my pitching style to a submarine approach and approached my pitching coach with this idea and asked for his help. With his support and help over the next two years, I have developed into a dangerous submarine pitcher who gives batters fits at the plate.
In addition to playing baseball and working to improve my pitching skills, during my sophomore and junior year summers, I fully managed the concession stand for our local swimming pool. It was a turnkey operation -- I selected the products to sell, purchased all of the inventory with my own funds, hired and managed the staff, sold the products, handled all of the accounting, and provided weekly account statements to the owner of the pool along with the profits generated from the sales. Managing my concession stand is very much like pitching -- it requires a plan and a vision to execute on that plan. Just like I had a plan to become a submarine pitcher and executed on that plan by bringing this idea to my pitching coach, asking for help, and working on the execution of the plan both with my coach and on my own, each summer I have a plan for my concession stand that requires the time commitment to execute on it so that I have a profitable and successful business.
I intend to take these skills I have learned as a pitcher and a small-business manager to my college experience so that I can excel on the college baseball field as well as in the classroom.
