I am General Schofield
My name is General Schofield; I am a High School athlete, a Christian, and a firm believer in “hard work pays off”. I have spent most of my life attending sporting events, participating in sports and I am an advocate for the game. I have had the privilege of attending two Super Bowls, Divisional Championships, and have visited numerous NFL stadiums to watch my oldest brother play. I have also attended multiple Regional Basketball Championships, Hundreds of College Basketball games to watch my other brother play and know what it is like to make it to the Championship and not finish. Go Cubs Go! I have attended multiple wild card games and regular season baseball games as well. These experiences have influenced me to put in the hard work required to make it to the collegiate and professional level.
My love for the game started at the age of three. I was so anxious for my opportunity to participate in organized sports. Therefore, I trained with my older brothers out of habit, not knowing that I was developing muscle memory and movement skills that would help me later in life. My opportunity finally came at five years old. My first sport was baseball and then came along basketball. How fun was that. I did not know the game at first, so naturally when I got the ball, I ran as fast as I could to the basket, Then I started learning more about the game and it became natural as I was a big kid and easily ran over any opponent to make a basket. Those were the good ole days. My brother, Admiral, quickly realized, this is a very athletic kid and took it upon himself to teach me the basics.
Over the years, I have learned through playing sports that there is always going to be someone better, so you have to put in the work. I am a hard worker, who loves the game and desire to be the best athlete I can be. I am very teachable and like coaches who are very knowledgeable about the game. I do not like playing for coaches who are unable to add to me as an athlete. “Hard work beat talent when talent doesn’t work hard” (Tim Notke).
My academic goals for High School is to remain on honor roll and attend a college with a degree in my field of interest – Marketing Management. I am looking for a college that understands the importance of academics and minimizes off-season activities which compromises my ability to get an education. I see myself at a D1 school where my talent skills and capabilities add value.
“Mental Toughness”. As an athlete, you have to have mental toughness to overcome any obstacles that may present itself. For example, you cannot get down on yourself if you miss a basket or a grounder, and you have to get past mistakes and turnovers. I constantly tell myself “Next Play”. My mom often records my games, so on my way home, I review the footage and make mental notes of what I need to work on. Then I seek the training I need to overcome the obstacle. Sometimes it is seeking a personal trainer and other times it is watching YouTube videos, games etc.
I am unique in that I believe in my abilities, my skill, my talent, my knowledge, my support systems and myself. I am confident that I can add value to any program that I have the privilege to participate with and I look forward to meeting you.
