Samuel Loerke '19 Recruiting Profile

My name is Samuel Loerke. I am 5’ 8” and weigh 175 lbs. I am a 17-year-old Senior from Wichita East High School.

Overcoming obstacles in life has always been part of God’s plan for me.  I was adopted from China at fourteen months old and was unable to walk at that time.  It was due to the diligence of my parents, who worked daily on my motor skills and put me in every sport possible, that I could overcome this hurdle. I developed a love for baseball partly due to my father’s love of the game. I began playing in club teams at the age of five. My father was in the Mickey Mantle World Series when he was younger and has always worked with me to help me perfect my skills. 

I love competing academically and in sports. I love challenges, and I love people. I am a goal setter and for the most part have been able to reach the goals I set.  I understand that reaching a goal is a process and requires sacrifice and diligence and those things are part of developing a strong character.  All through my school years my teachers and parents have told me that I am a natural leader. I also have the gift of encouragement and use that to help unite my teammates whether we are winning or losing.

I am looking for a good match academically and with my sports abilities. I have not yet chosen a major but am very strong in math and science and am exploring various degrees with that focus.  I expect my college years to be a time of growth in my baseball career where I not only improve my skills but also develop the mental toughness it takes to play at a higher level.  I have made it my personal goal to always do my best at whatever it is I am given to do and will strive to be a positive asset to the team. I know that my personal conduct on and off the field directly reflects on God, my coaches, and the team.
