I started learning to play the sport of baseball when I was 6 years old. Since then, I have not stopped playing this game that I enjoy very much. I love this game so much that I have played for two baseball teams since the spring and summer of 2015. I have been rather fortunate as I have been considered one of the best players in every team I am a member of. I believe this is because of my athleticism, drive and intensity, especially on the defensive end. To this day, I still value that fighting spirit every time I step on the field.
Two other sports that have helped mold me as a baseball player are basketball and cross country. The combination of skills, high level of stamina gained from running varsity cross country every fall, the swiftness and accuracy in making 3s along with my feisty defensive plays on the court have helped me overcome any obstacle on the field. It is no secret that I am short and that being short is viewed as being a disadvantage in baseball, but I do not play like I am short. With baseball, I learned to be patient, strategic and move swiftly but with precision. We all know baseball is a game of failure, so from it I learned to endure negativity and push pass streaks of disappointing plays.
I do not let missed hits get me down. In fact, it fuels me to practice more, strive harder and play smarter. All of the coaches I have had have praised me for never being afraid or backing down from a challenge and my ability to keep giving my best even in the last inning. I have played every game exactly the same way, no matter the competition.
I believe I have become one of the smartest decision-maker and fastest center-fielder in the high school league. Apart from working on my speed, increasing my energy and efforts plus overall gutsiness on the outfield, I have also worked hard on being a supportive teammate. I am committed to do whatever I can to help all my teammates and make sure the team remains motivated even when we are behind in runs. I am confident I am able to use these same skills to serve a team at the collegiate level, while continuing to grow and learn to reach my highest potential as a student athlete.
In closing, I must admit that who I am on the field is who I am off the field - I believe in pure hard work and putting in the efforts to transform my innate talents and intelligence in to skills and knowledge. By doing so, I am productive in the classroom, on the field and in my community.
