Jadyn Smuts '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jadyn Smuts, I am a 6’3”, 210 pound baseball player. My primary position is pitching, when I’m not pitching I play first, third, short stop and have also played in the outfield. I began playing club baseball at age 8. Playing varsity baseball through Covid has taught me to be adaptable, as teammates have been missing or playing different positions. Prior to high school, I was often asked to pitch for other teams. I had the opportunity to play with other teams including older age groups as well as traveling with other club teams that needed a pitcher. I have been the starting varsity pitcher for all of my high school career. Playing baseball has taught me that there is always more to learn, ways to improve and to never give up.

Outside of baseball I work on my family’s farm. On our farm, I operate the tractor & grain cart, help maintain equipment and do various other general duties. Growing up on a farm has taught me hard work and dedication. 

As a junior in high school, I currently have a 3.86 GPA. I have always excelled in various math classes. I began taking classes through our local community college to learn heavy equipment maintenance and operation. In college, I hope to further my education in something that can be used in agriculture or business management. 

I once had a coach that said “10 minutes early is 5 minutes late”. That is something that has stuck with me through my life. That taught me to show up early, be prepared and make the most of the time we have to practice.
