My name is Joseph Veit. For my Junior and Senior seasons, I am trying to make 1st team all-state and all-district. I want to play baseball in college and hopefully get drafted to a MLB team. I am a hard worker, dedicated to getting better and constantly improving my game. I work hard in the off season so that it will pay off during game time. Last year I walked onto my high school's Varsity soccer team and got a considerable amount of play time. I was involved in scouting for most of my life, reaching the rank of Life in Boy Scouts, where I learned about what it means to be a leader and a person of good character and integrity. I practice these things every day, whether it be on the baseball field or in the classroom. Throughout my life I have had many opportunities, one of these was in the summer of 2012 when I walked 274 miles through Spain on a pilgrimage with my father when I was 13. During that time, I learned a lot about myself, how you can never give up even when you think you cannot keep going. I learned how to use my inner strength, to keep on pushing when things get tough. Each day I put those things into practice, whether it be in the weight room trying to knock out that final rep, or in the last inning of a baseball game when you are tired and slow. You have to be able to use that inner strength to succeed.
I transferred to Mount Michael for my final two years of high school because I want to succeed and be better prepared for life after school. The academics at Mount Michael are much harder than at my old school, and I am always challenged to be the best version of myself. Being off at this school away from home has helped me to learn how to rely on myself to get things done, not my parents or other people. It has helped me to also learn how to manage my time, so that I do not fall behind in my academics.
My motivation to get up and running in the morning is the thought that someday, everything I'm doing in the classroom, on the baseball field, and in the weight room is going to pay off, and that I can not lay around in bed waiting for it to happen. I need to get up and make it happen on my own.
