Personal Statement

My name is Jackson Segnit and I’m 6 ft. tall, weigh 170 lbs. I play on the Marlboro Central High School Varsity Team.  In 2014, I was an integral part of our team's run to the sectional finals, going 2 - 1 on the mound with 3 saves. At the plate, I was the team leader and came up big in clutch situations. My outfield fielding percentage was 1.000%. Being the only Senior in the starting lineup, it was important to be a leader both on and off the field and to lead by example in both game time and practice.

In 2013, as a starter, I went 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA for a sub .500 team.  As a reliever, I did not allow an inherited runner to score and only allowed one extra base hit all year.  Even during the tough stretches of the season, I was a positive, supportive force in the dugout, always trying to keep the team's spirits up and focused.  That's a role I try to fill on every team, whether it's my American Legion team, Showcase team, or school team.

In the outfield, I am comfortable at all three positions, sometimes playing each one during a game.  My pitching skills help me in the outfield by reading how the pitch comes in and reacting quickly when it is hit.  These skills also come into play when throwing out runners, using my four seam fastball to get the ball there quickly and accurately.  Over the last three years, a span of more than 175 games, I have only made four errors in the outfield and no errors when fielding as a pitcher.

For the Marlboro  Jr. Varsity, I  was captain of the team and led them to a solid season. Although we started off losing our first 5 games, we then won 10 games in a row, finishing 12 – 6. My coach always admired my hard work and how I willed the team to finish strong.  I went 4-2 with a 2.42 era and 21 k’s. Along with a .510 batting average with 32 RBI’s, I also was not caught stealing, going 11/11 and ran a 7.0 in the sixty yard dash. For all this hard work, I was awarded Captain of the team which was a great honor for me.

As a student – athlete, academics come first and baseball is second. My work ethic in the classroom is the same as on the diamond. I try to excel in anything that I put my mind to. I will do whatever my coach says no matter where my experience level is at that position. Practices are where you make yourself better as a player, so I act as if it was a game. Once you step on the field, it’s all about getting better and not taking it lightly.

My dream is to play for a college that fits my needs academically and also fits my baseball skills. For me, it doesn’t matter which college division, I just want to fit into the rotation and then someday lead the staff. It’s me who decides how to improve and I am committed to doing so in all aspects of college life. My goal is to make an impact on my fellow players and coaches by giving 110% all the way through and trying my best wherever I go.

  • "Jackson loves the game and always is looking to improve, he is a team leader and has learned how to take charge of a team while at the same time being extremely respected by his teammates and especially his coaches. He is dedicated to baseball. He is not out there like most of the other kids his age to do something over the summer, he is there to play, learn, improve and win." - Coach Chris Camastro
