My name is Zachary Montambeault. I am a Canadian-born baseball player whose dream has always been to play at the collegiate level in US. I started playing baseball when I was 3 years old, and it has continued to be huge part of my life ever since. Baseball is part of my DNA, and I know that is not going to change anytime soon. I have had to make a lot of sacrifices to pursue my dreams up until this point, and I understand that more sacrifices must be made to continue this journey at the college level, and I am willing to make them.
I grew up in Monteal, Quebec until age 15 when I made the difficult (but very challenging) decision to leave my home, friends, and family to join a Baseball Academy and travel ball team in Bracebridge, Ontario (two hours north of Toronto). This was a huge transition for me, because in addition to leaving everything and everyone I had ever known, I would also have to switch language. I grew up speaking French, so needless to say, moving to an English-speaking province where I didn’t know anyone was very intimidating. Although I knew there would be challenges, I decided to face them head-on as this was the best opportunity for me to showcase my skills to college scouts from the US. This ended up being the best decision I have ever made. While on my way to becoming completely bilingual, I broke the starting lineup my first year eligible at age 15 on an 18U squad. This decision allowed me to level up in all aspects of life and taught me that sacrifice is worth it in the end.
Although my bat is considered my strongest asset, I always took the most pride in my defensive game. I knew being versatile and flexible would allow me to be considered for more opportunities at the next level, so I wanted to be able to play the most position I can in the infield but mainly at 3b, C & 2b. I have a high baseball IQ, quick hands, and a strong arm.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to do sacrifice, face challenges head-on, and try new things without being scared to fail. I have spent three years in at an English-speaking school and am very comfortable in that environment. Don’t let my accent fool you! I am confident that if you reach out to any of my coaches, they will tell you that I’m very coachable and always among the (if not the) hardest worker(s) in the room.
I cannot control the outcome of things, but I am always able to control the work that I put in and that is what I love about baseball and life.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Zach
