Personal Statement

My goal is to gain acceptance to a college or university from which I can get a quality education and keep playing competitive baseball.  After secondary school I attended Fanshawe College in London, ON.  The program that I took, Music Industry Arts, allowed for very little time due to 24hr studio time to try and play competitive baseball.  After I got home from Fanshawe I realized that I missed my dream too much, and have re-applied myself to a college baseball career!

I believe one of my strongest assets (and coaches have said it) is my knowledge and understanding of the game.  Starting baseball at the,  age of four and joining a travel/rep team by eight I find that I am further ahead then most players with my "game sense".  It is something I pride myself with in other sports I play such as ice hockey and basketball.  I think this is a great plus, especially in baseball, as I feel confident that if the ball comes my way I will make the right play.  Obviously,  through hard work I have a very good set of baseball skills to go with it.

The other thing that I believe has helped me be the top player on my baseball teams growing up, is the extra work that I put in.  My Dad and I have spent countless hours at the diamonds near our house working on drills.  It is great that we can really work on all aspects of the game and it has let me really fine-tune my skills.

I have really seen my strength and speed increase over the last 5 years which has really helped in all sports.  At elementary school I have played on all varsity teams (basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, track and cross country running).  During my years of high school at Holy Cross Secondary School, I have played Varsity Football (Safety) and Varsity Basketball (Center/Power Forward) and Varsity Baseball (OF/3B/SS).

I began a serious weight lifting regiment in early 2018 in our basement gym.  I really enjoy doing this and the benefits I am seeing are incredible!

Academically, I consider myself a very good student.   Holy Cross was a tough school academically, but I am worked hard to get good grades so I can attain my college goals!   The Fanshawe Music Industry Arts program was also a very tough program to get into.  They only take 80 students each year.  My drive to play competitive baseball is greater, however and I can't wait to find a school that I can help win!

I feel that I will be a great addition to any team that is interested in what I have to offer them!

  • 2024 18U Kingston Jr. Ponies (U18 PBLO/Travel)
  • 2023 U18 Kingston Jr. Ponies (PBLO U18)
  • 2022 18U Kingston Jr. Ponies (Formerly Kingston Colts) - Premier Baseball League of Ontario (U18 - PBLO - Regular Season)
  • The 2022 season with the U18 Kingston Jr Ponies in the PBLO (Premier Baseball League of Ontario) is over now. As a brand new team in the league we did struggle. Personally, I enjoyed the year. Once again I was the youngest on the team and plan on returning to play next year. I played a big role in the team this year. I was the only player to start every game in the regular season (25) and the playoffs (4) and was second in plate appearances. I generally was hitting 3-4-5 and led the team in RBIs. I also lead the team in HRs with 2 - one a grand slam. It was definitely a step up moving from the Fergie Jenkins League to the PBLO. Most of the PBLO players either play college baseball or are heading there. However, I felt that although some numbers went down a bit I definitely competed with every player on that field. Next year as the veteran, I hope to lead our team to a great season!!
  • 2021 18U Kingston Colts - Playoffs (18U Fergie Jenkins Showcase League)
  • I was the youngest on my U18 team (16 years old). I lead the team in most offensive categories during the regular season and carried it into the playoffs. We entered the playoffs in 5th place out of 6 teams and ended up in second place overall.
  • 2021 U18 Kingston Colts - Regular Season (U18 - Fergie Jenkins League)
  • I was the youngest by quite a bit on my team (I played as a 16 year old) and one of the youngest in the league. However, I still lead my team in almost all offensive categories
  • 2020 U16 Kingston Colts (Travel Team)
  • I am playing for the Kingston Colts U16 Team in the Fergie Jenkins Showcase League for the Covid19 shortened 2020 season. Our coach decided to use the shortened season to allow me to get time in lots of positions. Although, I am primarily a 3B and RHP, I was able to play all outfield positions and all infield positions! I really enjoyed it and felt very comfortable everywhere. Although I am the youngest on the team by a few months, I am one of the strongest hitters and ended league play with the third highest avg. at .419. I am working very hard on all aspects of my game this year! Unfortunately, I didn't get to pitch as often as I wanted due to a nagging injury . Hopefully, I can increase my pitching load next year.
  • 2019 Fergie Jenkins U14 East All Star Team (Tournament All-Star Team)
  • I made the 2019 U14 FJSL East All-Star Team. We competed at the August 16 - Aug 19 Diamond Nation Summer Bash Tournament in Flemington, NJ. It was a great experience for me! We played against some really tough teams. Due to the all-star format I played right field. I ended up 3 for 5 with a double and pitched two scoreless innings.
  • 2019 U14 Kingston Colts - Fergie Jenkins Showcase League (Club/Travel)
  • July 13th Update - I suffered a shoulder strain in tryouts so all I could do until July 1st was DH. Then in my high school game while DH I was hit by a fastball and had to miss 3 games. I didn't get my first start on the mound until July 7th - 5 Inning complete game. I'm now 100% healthy and ready for the stretch run at 3B and RHP. I also hope to do better at the plate as I felt that my injury affected my at bats.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • 2020 Canadian College & University Showcase
  • 2/09/20 to 2/09/20
  • This was a showcase designed to allow coaches to see players who were 2020 - 2022. It was a good showcase where we could update our times in Infield/Outfield Velocity, Exit Velo and Pitching Stats.
  • Camp/Event
  • 2019 Diamond Nation Summer Bash - U14 FJSL All Star Team
  • 8/17/19 to 8/19/19
  • I was with the Fergie Jenkins East All Star Team that played in the 2019 Diamond Nation Summer Bash Tournament. It was a fantastic experience for me playing in a tournament with very high calibre players like that. Although I had a great tournament in the field, on the mound and at bat I learned what I need to improve on to get my game to the next level. I hope that I can make next year's team and play there again!
  • Camp/Event
  • PBR Preseason All-State Hudson Valley
  • 2/23/19 to 2/23/19
  • This was a NY PBR event that I attended. Although focused on older kids there were four of us 2022. It was a good challenge and I really enjoyed it
  • Camp/Event
  • CBG Northeast Prospect Camp
  • 7/25/18 to 7/25/18
  • This was a great opportunity to do a prospect camp fairly close to home. With small player numbers I got some excellent one on one work from some great Division I and II coaches. I felt I managed to show very well even though I was over two years younger than the next youngest player. I felt that I could keep up in all aspects of the camp. I decided to do both parts of the camp - Morning: Pitching and Afternoon: Position and Batting. My fastball has increased by 9mph from the PBR camp in February so I was happy with that. I think working with Seth Douglas in Canton this winter will really help increase my velocity before the season starts next year! I did well with the other 3rd basemen in the position part of it and the coaches were also happy with my hitting and gave me some great tips to work on. It was a really fun camp and I'm looking forward to doing more!
  • Camp/Event
  • Provincial Junior LL Championships
  • 7/17/18 to 7/23/18
  • Game 1 - July 17th We played East Nepean in game 1. We have played this team 5 times already so we know them well. I got the start and had a pretty good game going 4 innings and allowing 5ER with 5K and 3BB. After 4 innings I played the last 2 at third base where I picked up one assist on one ball hit my way. At the dish I was 2-4 with 2SB and led the team. Unfortunately, our team allowed 8 errors, some miscues in the outfield and left lots of guys on base. We fell to the Eagles 13-7. Game 2 - July 18th vs Oakville - Again we played a good game but fell short defensively losing to Oakville 7-3. I had a pretty good game going 2-4 again with 2RBI. Game 3 was a must win for us and again we fell short 13-3 this time. I had a good day at the plate going 2-3 with 1RBI. Again there were few chances at 3rd but I notched 1 assist. Game 4 we finally managed a win 13-8. I went 3-5 at the plate with 3RBI. Two assists at 3rd. As a team the Provincials were very disappointing as we went 1-3 against teams we should have beaten. Personally, I hit well and didn't have any strikeouts. I also had no errors against me. My pitching wasn't as on as I had hoped. It took me a while to get used to the shorter mound (we normally play on a 60/90 field and the Provincals strangely were 54/80) but I don't want to use that as an excuse.
  • Camp/Event
  • U14 Little League Junior District 7 Playdowns Kingston vs Brockville
  • 7/10/18 to 7/13/18
  • July 10th - Megaffin Park - Loss 18-12. I played 3rd base. I had 2 put outs with 2 attempts and 2 assists. At the plate I was 2-4 with a double and 1 walk, 3SB and 1K. July 11th Megaffin Park Win 15-2. I pitched. I went a complete 6 innings (7th was a mercy). In a complete 6 I faced only 20 batters with 69 pitches and allowed 1 hit who I doubled up on a line drive to the mound and throw to 2nd. I finished with 0 ER with 7K and 2BB. At the plate I was 2-3 with a double and 2BB, 3RBI and 4SB. Game 3 - Fulford Field: Our team really came together and won the rubber match of our district play downs 17-1. I played 3rd Base and although only two balls came my way I ended up with 1 assist. At the plate I went 3-4 with 2 Doubles and 3RBI.
  • Camp/Event
  • School's Out Summer Invitational
  • 6/22/18 to 6/23/18
  • This proved to be a very challenging tournament for our team. Although considered a U14 event, Quebec has different age limits than Ontario so we ended up playing teams with kids up to two years older than us. We did stay in most games but unfortunately left Montreal 0-4 for the weekend. Offensively, I had a great tournament. I went 8-10 with 3BB and got my first home run of the year and first by anyone on our team. Defensively, the smaller diamond (we usually play 60/90 and the Montreal diamonds were 54/80) I found pretty tough and had a few errors that I don't usually make. I pitched in the final game and after 3 games and this one in the pouring rain I struggled a bit. I went 2 2/3 allowing 4H 6BB 2SO and 4ER which I wasn't very happy with.
  • Camp/Event
  • Kanata Wood Bat Tournament
  • 6/01/18 to 6/02/18
  • This was a good tournament which we played three teams that were Major Bantam teams (we are considered Minor Bantam). Although we couldn't come up with a win we played every game well. I played third base for game 1 and 2 (game 1: 1-2 with 2BB) and game 2 (1-2 1BB), In game 3 I pitched 90 pitches with 3K/2BB and 4ER. In that game I was 0-2 at the plate.
  • Camp/Event
  • Rising Stars Instructional Showcase
  • 2/25/18 to 2/25/18
  • This is the first showcase camp that I have attended. It was open to 2021, 2022 and 2023 kids. I was the only Canadian attending all other kids were from the NY area. I felt that I did well at the camp and that it was a great experience for me.

Training

  • Weight Training
  • 2 years
  • July 2018 - 2024 - I have set up a weight training area in my basement and I have been working at it almost every day for about a year now. I am seeing a big improvement in all of my sports because of it. Oct 9/2018 - I have continued to train in my basement and my Dad got me some additional weights and a agility ladder to help with my conditioning. Jan. 2019. I have kept up almost daily with my basement workouts. Combined with the cardio of Varsity Basketball I am really happy with my conditioning to date! I am really looking forward to heading into the 2019 season in the best shape of my life! July 2019 - A shoulder injury early in the season slowed my weight training. I focused mainly on lower body. I am now 100% healthy and working out lightly during the season - August 2019. I have continued my weight training during the present football season and indoor baseball season. Seeing great results! 2024 I now train at a facility near my house.
  • Baseball Training - Suny College - Canton Roos Baseball Clinic 2017/18 - 2019/20
  • 3 years
  • I began travelling to SUNY Canton in Canton, NY to participate in their junior group baseball clinics (about 80 kids). It was a fantastic experience and I plan to go even more in the 2018 -2019 off season. I hope to get more instruction from Eddie Vargas who helped me a lot with my hitting. He spent time with me on working on hitting the outside pitch and I hope to spend a lot more time with him this off season! I have also contacted Seth Douglas who runs personal training at the Roos complex and a team-mate and I will be working with him as well. - 2017/18. I have been to two more clinics at the Roos complex this Fall. Both have been excellent and I have learned new skills from the SUNY Canton coaches and players. - 2018/19. Seth Douglas has left SUNY Canton so I plan on having Wilson Matos (Assistant Coach at SUNY Canton) as my new personal coach. Wilson was an incredible middle infielder with the Roos and growing up in Puerto Rico. His stressing of footwork and angling/attacking the ball has helped me immensely this offseason. With the season on hold presently due to Covid-19 I am working hard on all lessons at home and am looking forward to getting back together again with Wilson! April 2020

  • BPH is an indoor training facility with cages and an infield work-out area about 45 minutes from our town. A few teammates and I are going to get memberships for the 2018-2019 off season. Although the business struggled and closed for a short time I was able to go their quite ofter last year. It looks like it will be going strong this offseason. 2017/18. Unfortunately, BPH closed it's doors at the end of this summer - 2018 Jan 2019: My travel team (Kingston Colts U14) has been doing indoor practices in a local gym. We will be moving to a large indoor dome to continue our workouts.
