Mario Rodriguez '24 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Mario Alberto Rodriguez Jr. I am a 2B / UTIL player from McAllen, Texas. I currently attend IDEA Quest College Preparatory and have been here since kindergarten. I am a high school junior and have been playing baseball since the age of 3 years old. Baseball has always been a passion in my family and has now become mine; I've grown to love baseball and playing the game. Our passion for baseball intensified especially after my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. As a young boy, I would spend most of my childhood with my grandparents which exposed me to the sport. 

My collegiate goals are to play at the highest level of college baseball and to help contribute to whatever team I get the opportunity to play with. I am a selfless player, mindful of the decisions I make and the effects it has on my team, and always willing to learn. I embrace failure and learning challenges in order for me to improve and eventually contribute to the betterment of my team. 

The difference between me and other recruits is that I also place importance on my academics. The idea of college has been instilled in me since a young age and even more so when my sister became a college student herself. My older sister, Amber, has also helped me become more exposed to Division 1 Baseball by introducing me to some of her friends and initiating important conversations. Lastly, I believe that my experience is different and unique because I've already been coached by 4 former MLB and minor league players through middle and high school.
